Who is the real news organization?

•November 19, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Remember a few weeks ago when some at the White House suggested that Fox wasn’t a real news organization?  They claimed their opinion shows had overtaken the actual news shows and become one.  Never mind that Fox was the only news source to carry Speaker Pelosi’s speech during the health care debate on the night of the vote.  Never mind that news watching groups who monitor balance have rated Fox as the most balanced.

But, those are not what I want to focus on.  If Fox is so off as a news source, what about MSNBC.  Are they fair and balanced?  Do they lean to one side?  Most definitely, but even that is not what I want to bring up.  Which news organization is following the Palin book tour around the country?  And this certain organization is doing that with their 12 central time slot.  Not at night during the opinion shows, but at noon.  They are hosting on site from Palin’s book signings.

I mean, I guess a former governor and vice-presidential candidate’s book is much more important than 10% unemployment.  It is probably a lot more important than health care.  It is much more important than whether to have civilian trials or military tribunals.  And, it is way more important than creating jobs and putting Americans back to work.  Those are all stories a REAL news organization would be covering.  So, which organization is real?  The one that covers those things or the one that follows someone around on a book tour?  So, while Andrea Mitchell and MSNBC follow Sarah Palin around like stalkers the other news people will cover the things that matter to us.  Who is the real news organization?

Jobs saved and/or created?

•November 18, 2009 • Leave a Comment

So, the stimulus package passed in Feb. works!  On recovery.gov we see over and over again jobs created, jobs saved, and how the money was spent.  It is amazing to see our efficient government at work!  I am blown away at how much can be accomplished in just a few short months from one bill.  We were promised that things would improve and according to the website, things are looking good all throughout the nation.  But wait, there is a problem…

The numbers are made up!!  That’s right!  They are not accurate.  The job numbers are wrong, the money spent is off, and get this, even the districts in which these things took place don’t exist!  Did you get that?  These brilliant people in charge made up congressional districts to push these numbers.  Wow.  Talk about government at its finest.  Makes me very excited to hand over my medical care to these people, how about you?

VP Biden was supposed to monitor this site and make sure the data was accurate.  Whoops!  Guess Joe missed that meeting.  Wonder how they will explain this one.  I mean, they have already started saying it was individuals from those areas fault for entering wrong data.  So, let me get this straight.  People involved in government from certain districts don’t even know what district they live in?  But, I think this takes the focus off the real issue of why these numbers are disturbing.

The unemployment rate is over 10%.  The stimulus was to keep it below 8%, remember?  And, how about the talk now about a jobs bill from Congress in December.  You know what they are saying?  That the stimulus wasn’t about job creation!  Are you kidding me?  Do these people think we are that stupid?  This thing was shoved down our throat in Feb. to fund ’shovel-ready’ projects.  You remember them saying that?  This was going to put people to work and save all these jobs across the country.  Well it hasn’t and they are losing it.  Make a phone call to your congressman and senator and tell them to push for this website to be corrected with ACCURATE information.  These clowns need to realize we are tired of their games.  Stop lying to us.  Be an adult and give us truth and facts.  But, searching for adults up there would be an exhausting search.

Terror trials in NYC

•November 13, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Word is out today that some of the detainees at G. Bay in Cuba will be tried in civilian court in New York.  The mastermind of 9/11 is one of those being moved to NY for trial.  The attempts by this administration to move as far away from Bush policies as possible has reached a new low in my opinion.

These men did not commit a criminal act.  They committed an act of war.  They were actively involved in the murder of over 3,000 people.  This was not some armed robbery or kidnapping.  They deserve no protection under our Constitution because they are not American citizens.

Some have said this was the best way because it doesn’t give them a platform to be heroes and martyrs for the cause.  I don’t buy that.  Now they will be able to present themselves in front of the world as victims of big, bad U.S.A.  Their attorneys will be allowed to try and get a verdict that is favorable to them.  Since we are having a trial now at least it is in NYC.  That is a place that will hopefully not listen to the attorneys spin and give these men some of what they deserve.

I realize there have been bad things happen to detainees and that has some on edge.  But, those instances are no reason to give admitted terrorists protection under laws designed for our citizens.  They committed an act of war, were captured on a battlefield, and should be tried in military court.  Actually, since this administration likes the U.N. so much, perhaps we could ask for a trial at the world court.

Job Summit

•November 12, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Next month the White House is having a job summit to discuss ways to improving hiring across the country.  Leave it to the government to form a group to talk about a problem we have known about for over a year now.  Acutally, many have seen job problems much longer than that.

The stimulus bill passed earlier this year, we were told, would hold unemployment at 8%.  It would not rise above that mark if we passed almost $800 billion in spending by the government.  Well, unemployment is now at 10.2% and many economists predict it is going to go even higher in the coming months.  So, how does the White House solve this problem?  Why, they want to hold a summit to talk…

Now, what are some things that could be done to help?  Investing some of that stimulus money toward small businesses.  How about tax breaks for companies who hire?  Or, even better than that, give some of these corporations incentives to move factories back to the U.S. from overseas.  One option that was promised in the stimulus debate was ’shovel-ready’ projects.  The stimulus bill was worthless and a waste of tax-payer money, but if you are going to do it at least use ’shovel-ready’ projects.  Have they done that?  Not at all.

Visit any news site and see where some of the money is going.  MSNBC.com is running stories showing how the money is being spent.  And as you probably know since its a government program, it is being wasted.  Let’s petition our government to spend our money wisely.  Both parties have been irresponsible and it is time our money was used to actually help men and women find jobs.  Bring the factories back from overseas and let’s go to work at repairing our workforce here in the U.S.

Thank you Veterans

•November 10, 2009 • 2 Comments

November 11th marks another veterans’ day here in the U.S.  There are a lot of ceremonies around the country and the world this week to remember those who have served their nation.  I stand and say thank you for what you do and have done for us.  Each one of us owes our veterans so much more than the time in one day to explain.

My wife’s grandfather is a WWII hero and ex-POW.  Everytime I talk to him I am proud to call him family.  He served his nation and paid a very high price in return.  So many others have paid the ultimate price.  Your service is not forgotten.  Life has a way of getting busy and we sometimes forget the important things in life.  These brave men and women did some hard things so you and I didn’t have to.  Freedom of speech, press, religion all protected because of these heroes.

Next time you see someone in uniform thank them for what they do.  Shake their hand.  Sometimes dangerous things are happening and heroes are sent to protect, defend, and perserve.  Its not always pretty or easy, but sometimes its necessary.  Thank you and may you know how much you mean to all of us.  Those soldiers at Ft. Hood, you are in our prayers.  We are grateful and wish there were some bigger and better words to describe emotions.  You deserve it.  You deserve our help, our time, and our energy.

Watch out for the pro-life Democrats

•November 5, 2009 • Leave a Comment

There is something brewing on Capitol Hill that most of the media has failed to talk about.  There are about 40-45 democrats who are opposed to some language in the current House bill regarding abortion.  They will vote against the bill as a whole, they say, unless their concerns are addressed.  Speaker Pelosi has a 40 seat cushion to pass the bill without any republican help.  Since it is almost certain no republicans will vote with Speaker Pelosi, this thing could go down in flames very quickly.

Several stories are out there that speak to them trying to work out their disagreements.  However, the leader of the group, Rep. Stupak of Michigan has said time and time again it is not good enough.  What will happen in the next few days?

The dems are pressing for a floor vote on Saturday and even the Majority Leader says it is really close.  Hang tight because this will be interesting.  What happens if it is voted down?  What happens if the pro-life dems vote with all the republicans?  Will any other moderate dems join the republicans because of Tuesday’s election results?  What kind of action will the Senate take in the next few weeks?  Keep paying attention because things are happening by the minute.

Republicans vs. Democrats

•October 29, 2009 • Leave a Comment

There is a congressional race in New York involving a democrat, a republican, and a conservative.  The 23rd district race has taken a national place due to endorsements from Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota.  This race highlights the problem with our government today and especially the two political parties.

Doug Hoffman is the conservative and I hope the next congressman from NY-23.  This race highlights the divide going on in our nation.  While I do not want a democratic majority in congress any longer than necessary, I will not support a candidate that is as liberal as Dede.  I am not a party hack who only votes for you because you have an R behind your name.  I want candidates who actually stand for something.

I see no difference between the republican and Owens the democrat.  So, either one of them will continue to vote for and support the endless spending that is coming out of Washington.  They will both support the lack on constitutional understanding that our current congress displays.  And, they will not offer anything other than the typical Washington response which is to tax and spend.  Its time we send the republicans a message that we view them in the same lense as the democrats.

It was a republican president who started this spending spree and it has been continued by the democrats.  I have no party to affilate with and for once that feels like a good thing.  It is time to stop basing our arguments on whether the party says its ok and looking to solutions that bring results.  Do we need a third party?  I am not sure.  I believe we can take back the republican party but we will see.  If they keep nominating candidates like Dede, then more and more people will bail and hand the democrats a rock-solid majority for years to come.  And you know, since there is no difference between these republicans and the democrats it doesn’t really matter.

We need to stop looking for the letter and asking what the candidates stand for.  For example, there are about 40 democrats threatening to block the health care bill in the House due to disagreements about abortion funding.  I support that effort.  Putting an R behind your name should no longer be a guarantee of support from conservatives.  Stand for something instead of trying to get a job.  Believe in the best of people and promote freedom.  Support tax cuts and cutting of federal spending.  Remember who you work for.

Tired of Progressives

•October 20, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I am so tired of progressives talking about how much they care about the fellow man.  They go on and on claiming more government involvement shows their compassion and ‘community’ spirit.  They then blast those of us who think differently as mean and selfish.  What a crock of bull.

Let me explain something so it is easy to understand.  Wanting the goverment to handle problems is not caring, it is lazy.  It is easy to use other resources and time then it is to use your own.  Instead of volunteering at a homeless shelter yourself, just send taxpayer money to do the job.  Or, instead of giving your own money to organizations, let the government fund them with other people’s money.  How is that caring?  The individual who gives his own time and money shows us the true ‘community’ spirit.

Instead of waiting on those clueless people in D.C. to do something, take the initiative yourself.  How much time do you volunteer?  How much money do you contribute to those who are less fortunate?  Are you waiting on your congressman to tell you its ok before you act?  What a easy excuse to get out of actually making a difference in the world.

So, don’t sit there and tell me I don’t care for my fellow man.  I believe it is my responsibility to help my family and friends in need and I don’t need D.C. to tell me when or how to do it.  True ‘community’ spirit is found in volunteers who spend time with people instead of handing out money and leaving.  Get to know the people in your area who are in need.  Organize and have fundraisers for them on your own.  That is what caring is all about.

So, to all the progressives out there understand something…we care just as much as you we just have a different approach.  Stop acting like 6 year olds and calling us names when we disagree and do things differently.  We want everyone to be healthy, have access to things, and live a productive life.  We just believe it is done person to person, day to day.  Buy the groceries of the person behind or in front of you.  Pay for the gas of the car next to you.  Those are ‘community’ activities and go a lot farther than the things those D.C. people could ever come up with.

Racism according to Jimmy Carter

•September 16, 2009 • Leave a Comment

According to the former president, it is racist to yell out ‘you lie’ during a presidential address.  It is disrespectful, classless, and out of line but it is not racist.  Is Joe Wilson racist?  Who knows?  Unless Jimmy Carter is God he cannot see inside the heart of Mr. Wilson.

I believe these comments are a slap in the face to people who have actually experienced racism.  Having a police dog attack you, being kicked off a public bus, having to eat in a separate room, that is racism.  Disagreeing with a president and yelling at a very inappropriate time is not.  Was Sen. Kennedy racist for the things he said about Clarence Thomas?  Or does that not count because Thomas is conservative?

I am so tired of this being thrown up.  Pres. Carter has no idea what it is like to experience racism, neither do I.  Pres. Obama does and he has said what Mr. Wilson did was not racist.  He accepted his apology and has moved on.  Pres. Carter needs to do the same.

Remembering 9/11/01

All of us can remember where we were and what we were doing on the morning of September 11, 2001.  I was at my parent’s house when my brother-in-law called to tell us something was going on in New York.  We quickly turned on the t.v. and watched in horror as the plane hit the second tower.  America had changed.

I spent most of the day watching the news footage and fighting back tears.  I still find myself in that state today as I think about those lives that were lost in such an evil way.  I vow to always remember what happened and those heroes who charged into the buildings to save lives.  I ask everyone to thank a firefighter and cop today for what they do for us.

Let’s use this moment to remind ourselves of what we love about America.  Yea we have political disagreements, but all families fight from time to time.  We have been truly blessed in this nation and I hope we never take that for granted.
